GET INVOLVED

GET INVOLVED IN LIFE medCLIFFS!

Ready to get started?
You can take part as an individual or as an organisation.

What is LIFE medCLIFFS doing to conserve Mediterranean cliffs?

The habitat of coastal cliffs on the Costa Brava is the home of endemic flora such as Limonium tremolsii, Limonium geronense and Seseli farrenyi. These species do not grow anywhere else in the world and their populations are currently in regression, present in only a few locations.

Invasive plants are one of the factors threatening the survival of these endemic species, thus endangering the conservation of the floristic richness of Mediterranean cliffs.

Minimising the impact of invasive plants on these endemic species involves, among others, the following basic tasks:

  • Identify and determine where the invasive plant species grow, as well as detect alien plant species that, although not currently listed as invasive in the current regulations, may become invasive in the near future.
  • Monitor the evolution of the abundance and distribution of both invasive and potentially invasive plants in priority areas.
  • Prevent the entry and distribution of new potentially invasive plants, making known which species have invasive potential and how they can be prevented from becoming invasive.

Why get involved in LIFE medCLIFFS?

As an individual, you will have the opportunity to learn about invasive flora, participate in field visits and events organised by LIFE medCLIFFS for free, meet people with the same interests as you, and enjoy nature and contribute to its conservation.

If you collaborate as an organisation, you will be part of the group of LIFE medCLIFFS supporters and your collaboration will be publicised on the project’s website and social networks.

Involvement in the LIFE medCLIFFS project is a completely voluntary action on the part of those who decide to take part, and under no circumstances does it involve financial compensation from the project.

How can you get involved?

Individually

1.  Register for COURSES ON INVASIVE FLORA and acquire the necessary knowledge to be able to collaborate as an expert in the monitoring of invasive flora. Flora Catalana organises several training courses throughout the year, free if you adopt a transect.

2. Become a LIFE medCLIFFS OBSERVER at iNaturalist
If you like to enjoy the coastal paths along the Costa Brava, you can record also the invasive plants you see on your way to help us to detect where invasive plants grow. All you need is a mobile phone, an iNaturalist account and be keen of learning!

3. ADOPT A TRANSECT and contribute to the surveillance and monitoring of invasive and potentially invasive species in priority areas with the highest risk of invasion.

As an organisation

If you are part of an organisation and you think we have common objectives, CONTACT US explaining the purpose of your organisation and how you would like to collaborate. We will contact you to evaluate your proposal.
