Let’s celebrate the World Environmental Education Day

Today, 26 January, World Environmental Education Day, we would like to celebrate that since 2023, some 300 people have been able to use the educational resources created within the framework of LIFE medCLIFFS to raise awareness on the issue of invasive alien flora and the conservation of endemic species of native flora in fragile habitats such as coastal cliffs.

Around 200 children and young people on the Costa Brava have taken part in several environmental education activities organised by LIFE medCLIFFS and excellently conducted by the La Sorellona Association in some schools and organisations on the Costa Brava. As well, both the educational community of the Costa Brava and the new elected officials in municipalities of the Girona province have been able to learn about the project and all its educational resources.

Through the LIFE medCLIFFS travelling exhibition, the participants learned about the project, the native plants that we want to promote and the invasive plants that should be eliminated from the Cap de Creus. Afterwards, they carried out one of the outdoor discovery activities or one of the four LIFE medCLIFFS cooperative games according to their age: INVADER AT SIGHT, THREATENED CLIFFS, medCLIFFS TIME or INVASORESCIDE.

All the games are available on loan free of charge for schools, institutes and other entities that may be interested:

  • If you are located in the counties of Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and La Selva, request them at the corresponding Educational Resource Centre.
  • If you are located outside the Costa Brava area, the resources must be requested through the CILMA website of Girona Provincial Council.

If you are a school and believe, like us, that environmental education is essential to guarantee the conservation of the natural environment, these resources are for you, enjoy them!
