XIV Girona Provincial Council Workshops for environmental educators on invasive alien species

The 16th edition of the Girona Provincial Council Workshops for environmental educators on invasive alien species took place on 6 February at the Casa de Cultura of the Girona Provincial Council. The workshop was aimed at environmental educators from organisations participating in the different environmental programmes of the Council. In the current context of global change, the loss of biodiversity caused by invasive alien species (IAS) is a critical problem. The fight against IAS focuses on prevention and early warning, highlighting the importance of awareness and citizen participation. During this day, several entities shared pedagogical experiences and resources to educate about IAS. The LIFE medCLIFFS project explained how citizen science is a key tool for the dissemination of the problem of IAS, but also for their management.

Sònia Garcia, CSIC scientist and head of the LIFE medCLIFFS project, took part in the event with a talk entitled “LIFE medCLIFFS: dissemination, education and citizen science for the protection of Mediterranean cliffs”.

Through a specific workshop, the educators were able to learn about the LIFE medCLIFFS board games, educational resources that the project makes available to interested organisations.
